Refillable Buffing Brush
It’s Cute but Faulty!!!
This brush doesn’t work properly and I agree it should be recalled.
It’s a little upsetting how now they’ve dropped the price and I recently bought my brush at full price and couldn’t return it because I was going on a vacation. But it’s still an OK carrying brush… I’m happy they’ve made a smaller one.
Hopefully the smaller R.B.Brush works a lot better :-)
I was warned in the store that it would take a while before the powder actually is dispensed. Thus, I was prepared. I got it to work fine. It is bulky but, the buffing action is really good, neat and convenient, especially if you are a multi-tasker like me. I don't have to worry about spilling the powder (The mess the make up makes is a definite draw back.).
However, after 30 days, past the returnable point according to the store policy. It broke. The plastic piece of the dial cracked and broke. It was still usable. However, the dial remained stuck so that it is not retractable nor can the vial come down so that it can be refilled. At this point I am just using up the remaining product left in the vial.
If you want to get about 1+/day worth of this product go fo it. But in these "tuff" economic times it was not worth it. I will not purchase a replacement
This product does not work at all. I bought one that didn't work. I called and they replaced it at no charge, but it still doesn't work.
After reading many reviews that weren't so great, I decided to try this product anyway. Boy am I happy that I did. I think this portable, refillable brush is fantastic. It works exactly as it says it does. I love that I am now able to bring my foundation with me in a portable little package that is not messy at all. Not sure why so many ladies had problems with this.
I love BE makeup. This product seemed the perfect combination -- BE and a brush in a compact, refillable case. Sadly, it never worked properly. Exchanged the first, mistakenly hung on to the second. I rarely used it but it felt like no power was dispensed. Also, powder leaked in my purse and eventually the makeup cup would no longer hold. I threw it all away and felt it was an expensive rip off.
Awesome...Once I read the instructions LOL
I had problems getting this to work at first too. I didn't bother reading the instructions though because it looked fairly straightforward: Unscrew the bottom, fill the vial with powder, screw back in and use. Well, after 15 minutes of cursing and swearing, I finally read the little paper that came with it!
For those of you who have a hard time reading TINY print (come on BE, take it easy on those of us that don't have perfect vision, after all, squinting causes WRINKLES!) I am going to do you a BIG favor. This is what you need to do to get the thing to work properly:
1. Unscrew the vial and set it aside. Look into the brush handle as you twist it to the open position. You should see the opening moving as you turn it. Keep turning till you hear a CLICK, and you will see that the brush is now FULLY open.
2. Close it back up and set it aside. Get your empty vial, favorite powder, the little spoon, and a dime, penny, or if you promise to be careful, a butter knife (or flat head screwdriver).
3A. If you have the CLICK, LOCK, GO sifter on your pot of powder: make sure the sifter is locked shut. Flip it over so the bottom faces up. I suggest doing this sitting at a table and putting down a paper towel to work on so the pot doesn't slide. Take your tool (penny, dime, whatever) and stick the edge of it in between the rim of the container and the plastic cover. If you look at the bottom of the pot you will see that there is a frosted plastic disk, whereas the pot itself is clear. There is a little space between them, and this is what you are aiming for. Using GENTLE pressure, pry your tool up under the lip of the disk until you feel it give a little. STOP!!! Turn the pot 1/4 turn in either direction, and repeat until the disk comes free. (Trying to pry it up in one shot MAY cause the disk to pop up too fast, causing spillage and loss of product!) Use the little scoop to transfer the powder to the vial and screw it back into the handle. Place the disk back on the pot and press down firmly with even pressure over the whole pot until it clicks back into place. You will know you did it right if the disk looks flush with the bottom of the pot. If it's lop sided or sticks up, try again. I actually press it down and turn it over right side up on my counter top, cover it with my whole palm, and lean down on it till it clicks tight. I find this easier, but do what feels right for you
3B: If you are using a pot with the REGULAR sifter, this is what you need to do: Getting the regular sifter off with a coin or butter knife is IMPOSSIBLE! So you really need to use a knife with a pointed tip that can get between the sifter and the rim of the pot, but you have to PROMISE to be EXTREMELY careful, and if you are a clutz (like me) have your hubby or handy BFF do this part for you! If you hold the pot at eye level and look at the rim, you will see where there is the frosted plastic of the sifter and the clear plastic of the pot. There is a little seam where they meet, and this is what you are aiming for. Put the pot down on the table/counter where you have laid down your paper towel. GENTLY work the tip into this seam and give your tool a LITTLE twist till you feel the sifter give a bit. Turn about 1/8 of a turn and repeat, until the sifter comes free without force. Fill your vial and screw it in, replace your sifter (just put it on and press, no click, no fuss. You will know its on right when you can barely see the seam again) and put the lid back on.
NOW that you have filled your brush, twist it almost all the way around until you hear it CLICK. If it doesn't click, it's not open the whole way. Once it clicks, turn it over and give it a shake to release the product and get it flowing. Test it by buffing onto the inside of your arm. If it doesn't flow right away, tap the bottom of the brush FIRMLY on a solid surface and try again.
It may seem like a lot of work, but it's totally worth it for the convenience factor once you set it up. I have the mini brush, which I am using for blush or Radiance (depending on my mood LOL) and the full size one for my foundation. I like the full size one for foundation because I can customize the blend as my skin tone changes throughout the year. The mini is nice if you want to create custom blush blends.
Once I figured these out, I fell in love with them and will never grab my purse without them!!!
Hope this helps some of you!
Loved it until it locked up
I am an avid BareMinerals user. It is the only product I will put on my face. I use the skin care products as well as the make-up. I swear by it and recommend it to others all the time.
Since its a loose powder, it has been difficult to keep in my purse and use for a quick touch up, so when I saw this product I was very excited and thought it would solve this problem.
Initially it worked great for my foundation, so I bought 2 more for my mineral veil and blush. I agree with other users that the instructions did not accurately describe how to use the product, however I was able to figure it out and was happy with it. Then after a few months of use one of the brushes "locked up" so the brush wouldn't retract back into the base. No matter what I did I couldn't get it to work right. Thinking this was a fluke I took the brush back to the store I bought it and they replaced it. Then within another month the exact same thing happened to the other 2 brushes. Now I realize this isn't a fluke but an overall flaw with the product. Knowing this I did not want to replace the brush but return it, however being months after I purchased it and not having a receipt any longer I could not return the product.
Needless to say I'm extremely disappointed to have spent almost $100 on 3 brushes that after only a few months of use are worthless to me.
it in my purse reapply as needed which is so nice because of how busy i've become, helpful beyond belief put some on before i get home then the boyrfriend isn't scared of me when i get home tired.
Problem Filling Buffing Brush
I love the buffing brush (as I do all of the BM products I have tried.) However, I don't really like filling it. Trying to get the BM Foundation out of the container with the new Click/Lock/Go lid is very frustrating. Otherwise -- the brush is fantastic for carrying with me when I am away from home.
No Problems Here!
I have 2 of these in my bag - one for Foundation, and one for MV - and I love them. I've had absolutely NO leakage. LOVE it.
Can't figure out how to use it
I just saw that other people are having issues with the design of this brush and I'm also having the same issues. I can't get the product to go down the brush. I suppose I'll look at other reviews on tips to use this but the instructions that are given with the product do not work at all.
refillable buffing brush
what a disappointment. You either get a clump of minerals that come out or none at all.
The brush sheds also so you have to pick off hairs after using. To refill the brush you have to unscrew the bottom and the minerals drop out and get all over. A big mess if you wear black pants to work**warning** dont waste your money!!
I just want more info on this buffing brush. I have no where else to write my problem. Just recently I purchased the buffing brush, which I thought would be a good idea to carry around for instant touch up; however, my problem is after I removed the plastic lid from my bare minerals jar, it is still covered with another plastic lid which I think is NOT removable. Can someone help me.
I love Bare Escentuals, but this product is a dud - the applicator leaked powder all over my makeup case - I wouldn't buy it again.
If your brush doesn't work give this a try.
The first day i received this brush it made me extremely frustrated, like most reviews on the refillable brush i could not get it to work or any powder to come out, it got to the point where I was just going to throw it out. I later realized that I wasn't using it properly.
Well on the brush it dials, (close - open - buff) and the instruction tells you to turn the dial to open and shake to get powder into the brush then turn dial to buff and then buff. But after carefully examining the brush i realized you has to turn the dial about 340 degrees from close. This cause the access way for the powder and lets the powder to actually flow through, if you look into the back of the brush before you put the power in and turn the dial 340 degrees from close you will know what i mean, then once you get enough powder on the brush turn the dial to buff and buff. At the beginning you may need to shake a little bit but once it gets flowing your good to go.
It gives a control of light to full coverage which is great and doesn't leak in my bag. If only it was a little smaller. Over all its good for quick touch ups and quick application without the mess but not very portable to take out for clutches or small purses. I love the fact that the brush detaches for easy cleaning. I hope the will help out alot of the frustrated girls =)
I had no problem getting the product to work, and mine worked well. HOWEVER, it's too large for what I think most women are looking for in a purse product. Yes, it may work well to take on a trip instead of your regular product. I think, though, most of us are looking for a product to carry in the purse for quick touchups to specific "spots" throughout the day. This is not it...for me. It's too large to just give you a concentrated touch up. AND if you wear suits or other more professional wear, it is a definate that you will get it on your clothes, leaving you to try to wipe it off. Also, I've had the bottom come unscrewed twice in my purse, making a huge mess.
A few suggestions for BE to consider:
1- Give us the same idea in a much smaller brush...along the size of the concealer brush.
2- Put a "snap on" cap over the end that protects the product vial.
Love the idea, back to the drawing board
I was so excited to see this product offered, I couldn't wait to purchase it. Once I got it home I was very disappointed to find nothing comes out threw the brush. I have tried so many things from sticking a toothpick through both the brush and the tube making sure it was clear, I've shaken it so much the brush head has fallen off - still no luck getting any product out. I've used the sunscreen since it was introduced and love that dispenser, it works great. Why can't the refillable buffing brush work the same?
Sincerely, A very sad customer . . .
Takes getting used to, but works good
This item does take some getting used to and to get the initial powder down into the brush, but once you get it flowing and master it, it works good. I've not had any problems with leakage of the powder. I only wish it was a tad bit smaller for my purse. I did take it through the security/ screening process at the airport last week, with no problems or searches. Will continue to use for the convenience, but recommend BE work out some of the bugs in the design before recommending it to others.
At first I was also very disappointed with this item as well. So on my next visit to BE, i mentioned by disappointment to the sales associate & with a simple tap on the counter and release of product build up i was able to get much better results.
Great idea, but…
I liked the idea of a quick and easy way to reapply mineral veil, which is a great product, when I am out. The first disappointment was the size of the product–hard to tell from the onscreen image. Too big and bulky to pop in a small purse. The next was the difficulty getting the powder to the end of the brush. When I tapped too hard in frustration, the brush flew off its holder and powder spilled everywhere. I agree that this product should be recalled. You need to re-engineer the brush to make it shorter and more compact (like the gold one on your Shiny New Toys web page?), perhaps with a removable bottom cover to prevent the powder holder from leaking.
I have used them for several months and have not had any of the problems previously noted. I use three everyday for fountain, warmth and mineral veil. And I keep a mineral veil in my purse. Also, I got several and gave them as gifts and have only gotten positive comments. I wish they would make an option with a smaller brush for eye shadow.
The concept of the product is great, i like the convience of it. However it leaks everywhere. Even if you double check that it is closed it still by the end of the day is all over. I like it significantly better than the other to go items they have but it still needs refining.
Just a little patience....
So I had the same problem, where I could not get the foundation to come out. It just takes a few for it to fall down the bristles and once it gets moving, it works just fine. I just didn't like how frustrated it made me and how the instructions did not tell you that. But it wasn't clogged, and it provides good coverage.
Very disappointing product
I was delighted when I saw this - finally a non-messy way to carry my foundation when I travel! The reality: I have NEVER been able to get foundation to come out of the brush: 5 or 6 grains at a time and that is only after vigorous shaking, tapping, threatening and begging. This only whetted my appetite for a refillable brush that really works. Back to the drawing board, BE, and please come back to us with a working product!
Not quite right
I have a lot of trouble getting minerals out of this brush. Once the brush head even fell off while I was shaking it.
great idea, but totally missed the mark
I wasted so much makeup trying to fill the jar...I haven't even tried using it yet. I wish the other reviews were posted before I bought this.
Barely anything comes out that's usable, only dust everywhere you don't want it. I can only seem to get any powder on my hands and bag, never my face.
Good idea. Doesn't work.
This is a great idea for every day and for travel. However, it doesn't work. Even when you try to follow the settings exactly, the makeup doesn't come out and it also clogs. Too bad, it could really be a convenient tool.
Needs to be recalled
I got the Bare Minerals starter set sometime in March and absolutly loved the makeup. Everyone complimented on how my face just glowed. I was using a different brand of make up that had a cream to powder finish. It was great esp for on the go except that it was getting old. I figured I'd buy this product since I really like the foundation and it would be perfect for my travel bag (which I use everyday for work). It's messy getting the powder into the vial. The biggest problem is using the device.
When you turn the dial to the open position, nothing comes out - I even removed the brush and powder vial to see if there was something blocking the hole where the powder should come out of - the problem was that the stays closed and only opens once the dial turns past the buff marker (which according to the instructions is when the powder is supposed to stop coming out). I'll keep the product and just use it carefully when the dial is turned past the buff mark (so the powder comes out) so that the brush doesn't fall off.
If it weren't for the fact that I really like the coverage of Bare Minerals and needed something for travel - I would have returned it back to the store.
