Q & A

MATTE Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15 - null 4.5 5 171 172
Great Foundation My friend introduced me to this foundation about 6 years ago. I had never worn any make up prior to this. Now I cannot live without it! I have combination skin. Its dry near my chin and very oily in my T-zone. I have enlarged pores on my cheeks and acne scars. I have experimented with the original foundation and it did not work as well as the matte for my skin. The powder keeps my skin from being shiny during the day and it looks almost flawless. Its also not heavy- I often feel I am not wearing makeup. I have tried other products and I keep finding myself coming back to this foundation- its worth the money. I work as a RN and its a make up I can wear to work without looking so made up. 04/27/2016
The Best Thing I Ever Did Was Start Wearing This Ever since I was a teenager, I struggled with combination skin. Sometimes my face was really dry and others it was super oily. I would have weeks with no breakouts and then weeks will a ton. My mom first introduced me to Bare Minerals when she bought me the starter kit. Once I started wearing it and stopped with the other cakey foundations, I could see the change in my skin. Bare Minerals hides what I want it to hide but still keep the look of my own skin. I stopped putting chemicals on my face and the natural minerals have really helped me keep my skin clear and healthy. I wear Bare Minerals every day and nothing else! 04/17/2016
NOT FOR ME I feel, and others communicated to me that the foundation looked harsh, unnatural, and took away from me instead of enhancing me; I have good skin, so really don't need a foundation, but like to wear something to have that polished look; I selected the shade with a store associate, seemed to be the right color, but when I put it on, to me, it seemed too dark and too yellow for me; I am light with a neutral skin tone; so I gave it to my mother to try, and see if it would be of benefit to her, and her friends told her to take it off, said she looked older, told her she looked made up. So, I feel it was a waste of about $30.00, product wasn't what I thought it would be. I bought a tinted moisturizer from another line at a department store, and it compliments me beautifully. In summary, I feel this product was not for me, and thank you for the email asking me to share my thoughts. What I do wish is that you would bring back the high shine eyeshadows, loved them, miss them, would wear the purple and the white, were such beautiful products, in a few seconds would bring out my eyes, was one of my favorite products out of anything I ever used. The price was affordable too. I hope you can bring those products back. I do wear the mineral veil as a finishing touch to set the tinted moisturizer, sometimes just wear that and not the tinted moisturizer; I like the mineral veil to take away any shine from my layered mositurizers, as I have dry, sensitive skin, always did, am 45 years old, but am told I look about 27. I take care of my skin by using good products and avoiding overexposure in the sun. That's why I had come to Bare Minerals because I researched how the products are good for your skin, and so I selected the mineral veil. I am all set with what I use for makeup, but again, wish the high shine eyeshadows would come back because I'd love to have the purple and the white on my make up table. 04/12/2016
Never fails I don't know why I try new foundations because I ALWAYS end up buying this again. Lol This is possibly the best foundation Bare Minerals makes. Literally makes my skin look so flawless, people are always asking what make-up I use. I have really oily, acne prone skin and Bare Minerals is the ONLY brand that does not break out or irritate my skin. Other foundations don't measure up to this one. 01/26/2016
I will never use liquid foundation again I absolutely love this foundation. I thought with my dry skin that there was no way I could use mineral powder foundation. Once I apply the primer, the foundation lasts all day. My skin feels great and I never feel like I'm wearing makeup. I'm a nurse and I work long 12-14 hour days, so I need makeup that lasts. This delivers. I love it! 01/24/2016
Great Foundation I enjoy the matte foundation every now and then. I do find that it's harder for me to get coverage with the matte when compared with the original. Also, just as a warning the colors are slightly darker in matte so you may need to go down 1 shade. For example, my fairly light in matte swatches the same as my light in original. 01/19/2016
Saved my skin! I was dubious at first, but I love it! Now that I am not using the liquid and cream foundations, I do not suffer breakouts. I was using the non-comedogenic products but still had breakouts. For best coverage, follow the directions and build up if you need to. I really like the matte foundation - I have naturally oily skin so the matte formula is perfect for me. 01/17/2016
Matte Foundation Provides great coverage, container lasts a long time, and is great on my sometimes oily skin. 01/08/2016
Perfect for everyday use. It's perfect if you're going for the everyday no makeup makeup look. It blurs imperfections but doesn't cover them completely which isn't really a big deal for me. This powder is so light it feels and looks like it's your bare face. 01/05/2016
Special extra large size I love the matte foundation because it provides the extra coverage my skin tone needs and have been using it for years. The only way to improve it would be to offer it in the extra large size pots like you do for the original at certain times of the year like Christmas. I purchase the extra large size of mineral veil when it's available and always wish the matte foundation was there as well to purchase with it. 12/29/2015

I want to open the plastic casing that holds the matte powder foundation. It says to "lift the sifter off". How do I do that? I have tried everything and can't open it!!! I end up wasting foundation because I can't get the last bit out.

For a long time I had this problem too, here's how to do it. Get a pair of flat ended tweezers, on the bottom of the foundation you will notice there is a plastic plug. Use your tweezers on the inner most circle of this plug and gently pry it upward. It's best to work around the entire canister to get the plug lifted. Once removed you can use every bit of foundation and simply push the plug back in place so you do not lose any foundation. Hope this helped!

Basically you want to turn your container upside down. You should see the color name of your product on a clear circular little lid... I usually use some flat headed tweezers and I click it upwards, just like a paint can lid. There you have it now you can use the rest of your product! Hope I helped!

I am also 58 I would recommend the luminous ( original)since you have normal skin. I have oily skin so I use the matte version. I get very good results when using a primer & find it absolutely does not settle in my wrinkles like other make-ups. As far as what shade it's hard to say just be aware the actual product is lighter than it appears on-line. I ordered based on the images but ended up going to Sephora to get color matched, if this is not possible for you I would call customer service they are helpful maybe if you can think of a famous movie star whose skin color most matches yours they can recommend the right shade for you. Hopes this helps.

I've never had this with any other make-up foundation and I have used the same liquid primer for almost 10 years now. I love the way this product makes the rest of my skin look and feel but it is so frustrating and embarrassing to deal with. Also, I do not have the gathering of make-up in my smile lines when I simply wear a primer foundation so I know it has to be the matte finish that is causing this issue. Thank you in advance BM.

Powder foundations just tend to do this. I too have that happen in between my eye brows in my lines. I have found using the normal bare minerals primer vs oil control primer is better. I also have started to use the correcting concealer and this helps keep the make up in place. I went to school for hair/make up and I was taught the proper way to wear any foundation is primer, liquid foundation, concealer and then set it with a powder foundation. Maybe give the concealer a try?

Hi! I tried the Matte foundation and ran into the same problem. I think the ingredient causing this is the silica, as the other foundations that I've used with this ingredient tend to be pretty cakey. However, I don't have this problem at all when using BM's Original foundation. It actually makes my skin look younger, as it's more nourishing and luminous (in my opinion). I also use the mineral veil at the end to get more of a matte finish. Good luck to you!

im a warm tan powders and have tried bare skin and complexion rescue. honestly unless you want to use multiple items , there isn't a shade that matches. i tried bare walnut and turned out really paste-y even though it looked like it would match. the only thing i can say is to maybe take a chance on espresso or bare mocha since they're the only 2 shades left. one of them may work

really any age! Perfect for pre-teens and adults. This foundation doesn't have any harsh ingredients in it that can cause acne like some drugstore foundations. Your skin actually changes a lot with this makeup. It's smoother, softer, and doesn't clog your pores. The mineral veil really seals in the powder foundation. It absorbs oil and it's great to have if you get oily throughout the day.

Absolutely it is safe for them to use. I dont recommend it at all for though. Its very gentle on the skin but it is not great for acne. I have bad bright red acne sometimes cysts. It covers but looks very unnatural and cakey if you need quite a bit of coverage. I suggest if you do purchase it to make sure to use primer and some form of green cream to reduce the redness. I find using a concealer specifically on the bumps helps too.

I started using makeup in 6th grade at age 12 and even though I am still in my teens, this makeup is one of the best I have used (and I have tried a lot).
It feels and looks natural and I have many allergies and sensitive skin.
Their finishing powder is also light and great.
No matter what age this is a great makeup brand and better than a lot of those heavier and less natural foundations out there.

Hi Cammie! I run into the same problem as Summer ends. I have yet to find the perfect shade down from medium beige that isn't too light, so what I do is buy Fairly Light and mix in small amounts of Medium Beige until I get the desired result. I like being able to control the color but do wish there were more shade options for lighter skin tones with neutral undertones. Good luck to you!

I have found the shades to be the same. I wore Golden Tan in the Original for years and I switched to Matte about a year ago. The color is still a perfect match, but now I don't have that super skinny glisten when my skin gets oily. It has a more natural dewy look after 2 hours.

Yes I believe so! The Matte may be a bit darker but it is hardly noticeable! When I went to get my shade match in the store the artist tried on both and told me that they look the same on me. (Medium Beige) The only real big difference is the finish between Matte and Illuminated.

Yes, they are the same color, with Mattes just not having a that "glowy" look (from the mica in the Original). The Matte may be a teeeennnyy shade darker, but not enough to need a whole new shade.

Hope this helps!

I have struggled with acne for years and also have super oily skin. I am not positive if it is truly "oil free" but it has absolutely helped me get my acne in check and controlled the amount of oil on my face. Highly recommended for acne prone skin!

I honestly can't say if this has any type of oil or not, but I can tell you it's great for acne-prone skin. I have acne and my face gets oily, I have been using this product for some time now and it has never made my face break out worse and it hides and acne and acne scars very well. I highly recommend trying it!

I have had acne for a good portion of my life. This foundation has never made my face break out (milk actually contributes to my acne so I switched to almond milk), however, this make up really helps cover the discoloration caused by acne. Once my face cleared up after switching milk, I love this make up even more! I get comments all the time about my skin and I know it's the make up that makes it glow! It it not oily or heavy. It is actually quite light and I believe the ingredients are listed on the site. No oil that I know of!
