Well-Rested Face and Eye Brightener
Gives a beautiful highlighted eye look. I do prefer the loose well rested to the pen, however, the liquid well rested does have an ever-so-slight of a natural shimmer to it that makes the brightening so beautiful.
This is nothing like the original powder Well Rested. The powder was great at hiding little dark spots and as an all-over light concealer. I don't have big dark circles, but the powder form was always great for actually brightening my eyes. This makes them look saggy somehow. This product is watery, runny, and shiny...and does nothing for my skin. The applicator is hard to open and provides very uneven coverage. DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A REPLACEMENT FOR THE POWDER WELL-RESTED. I am thinking I will go back to using a different brand. This is not for me. I expect more from Bare Minerals.
I received this yesterday with the expectation that it would be of similar consistency/coverage to the powder form. I have tried to use it multiple times and am just flat out disappointed. It is nothing like the original; it doesn't provide hardly any coverage. It literally only adds a little moisture and shimmer to your under-eyes, which creates a reflection of light...making your eyes appear brightened. The powder form actually does the job....so please bring it back!
Great product that does WHAT IT SAYS.
I have noticed people talking about "coverage" and the lack thereof. This product is NOT a concealer. The powder concealer or the "stroke of light" will help tone dark dark circles. This product is FABULOUS. for brightening the inner eye area, brow bone, couple spots on the forehead, and especially top of cheekbones which can be hard to do with a lot of products. I like this product for winter, because when I use all powder substances my face dries out and makes me look older than I am. I like that BE is starting to have more liquid or semi-liquid options. Per the dispenser... you have to watch the product come up the tube when you first use it. When it gets close to the brush, start clicking slower, then when it starts flowing out, from then on, ONLY click it 1-2 times at a time. Dab it along the area you want to high light, and then rub it in with your fingertips... it will blend pretty well the other make-up you have on. This product's packaging CAN be tricky to use, and it does not conceal dark spots. BUT this product it not a concealer, so people who have that complaint have bought the wrong product. If you go into a boutique, the workers there will tell you that the big difference in stroke of light and well rested is that well rested brightens the complexion but doesn't conceal. I like the well rested because it brightens without being sparkly- it looks more natural. The powder can be harder to blend sometimes and can sink into wrinkles/dry spots/ fine lines very easy. Just make sure you are buying this product for its intended purpose and you'll love it.
Poor delivery system
I was excited about this product since I have perpetual dark circles under my eyes. When I use it, it doesn't provide enough coverage for me, but that's not the problem. No matter what I did, I couldn't make the product flow our of the applicator. I turned and turned with no success. I called Bare Escentuals and was sent a new container - which isn't much better. I have to shake it, then turn it several times before any product comes into the brush, and often I get no result at all - or so much I can't use it all! So disappointed with this product because I really love Bare Escentuals and recommend it to everyone.
Older under eyes finally get a break!
I just turned 50 and find that powder concealers crease in my under eye area adding to an older crinkly look. Liquid concealers are about the same because the skin is getting very thin under my eyes. This product however, glides on smooth, stays smooth, doesn't sit in creases and brightens so I only need a very thin hint of powder cover for which mineral veil is perfect. I'm really hoping there is some bleaching because much to my chagrin I am getting those age spots under my eyes now too. Even if it won't bleach the age spots, I will definitely buy this product again.
Subtle but noticeable
First of all this is NOT a concealer. I was a little agitated reading negative reviews about this product. The product works well and does exactly what it claims to do (which is not conceal). If you are patient enough to click the pen a few times and wait to see what comes out you won't waste any. It visibly brightens without being sparkly. It blends right in to your foundation. If you have horrible dark eyes use something that claims to be a concealer to cover it. This is not that. It is light and not cakey and I can't even feel it on my face but do see a brighter difference. It's not a miracle worker- it's make up. It is meant to enhance your own beauty- not cover up your whole face in hopes of making you beautiful.
Best brightener I've used
I haven't had to much luck with brighteners in the past because I do not like my face to be glittery. This stuff works so well. It really brightens my under eye area and makes me look like I actually got sleep the night before. I also use it on my forehead and cheekbones to give my face a glowy look. One note is that this product is not a concealer. It brightens, not hides under eye circles. I like to mix it with my concealer for a highlighted, bright look that lasts all day.
Going back to the powder!
So disappointed in this product. It is very unpredictable to use. The cream seems to flow out with a mind of its own so I feel like I waste a lot. It really doesn't seem to do the job it's supposed to do. I was using the Well Rested powder mixed with Eye Rever-upper cream. It was wonderful but I was hoping for one product to do the job of both. This is not the product. Will not buy again.
There are better options
I was really excited to try this product. I often use the loose eyeshadow version (Well-Rested 20 spf Eye Brightener) but wanted something easier for on-the-go and travel. However, I doubt I will use this product, and if I do use it, I will combine it with another product (see "Alternatives" below). The downsides:
(1) Not as full of coverage as the loose shadow version. If you have very, VERY light "dark" areas, this might work well for you. Otherwise, I suggest trying the loose shadow version. I only notice the slightest difference under my eyes and elsewhere when I apply this product generously.
(2) It's difficult to get started. They suggest five "click" turns to get the product flowing. I tried diligently. Then a few more clicks. Nothing. Waited while I kept trying to apply it. Few more clicks, etc. I probably turned it more than twenty times before the product flowed the first time. Ever since then, it's been a little unpredictable about when enough will be in the brush. In sum, it's a tricky, unpredictable application mechanism.
(1) I suggest the Bare Minerals powdered, loose shadow version of Well-Rested (20 SPF) for fuller coverage and controllable application.
(2) I also suggest Bare Minerals' "Stroke of Light Eye Brightener." It is better than all three at brightening (especially the under-eye area), and has slightly more coverage than this liquid well-rested product. Additionally, the Stroke of Light has an excellent application brush that's very easy to control. If you want an on-the-go, liquid option, try the Stroke of Light (which also layers well with the shadow Well-Rested for a best-of-both-worlds effect).
