Refillable Buffing Brush
Waste of Money!!
Had hoped to use while traveling. Tried it at home first... and left it home.
Tonight, gave it a second chance. DOES NOT WORK. WASTE OF MONEY.
OK and convenient
The brush has a very convenient design but unfortunately, works better with mineral veil than foundation. And it is not very soft.
Great idea - Poor design
I wanted this to be great. It seemed like the perfect way to keep my mineral foundation neat and easy to use, especially while traveling. But the reality is that the brush head would fall off every time I would shake it to distribute the power on the brush. And shaking didn't bring enough powder to the brush to use properly. The powder compartment was too small to hold all my powder so I still had to keep it elsewhere as well. The brush was beautiful and soft, but if it keeps falling onto the floor, it can't be used.
I'm returning mine. :(
Perfect Travel Tool
I am not sure what the other writers were doing with this brush. I have been in a job that requires 100% travel for the last 5 years ... I have been travelling with this brush, loaded with my makeup for the entire time. It works. It has not cracked or broken. I make a little cone out of a small piece of note paper to refill it. In fact I have two of these ... the smaller for the makeup and the larger for the mineral veil. Maybe folks are not reading the directions?
Love the idea, hate the product
As many others have said, the concept is great but the product isn't. I've been a BE customer for many years and I thought I'd give this product a try even though it was a bit pricey. It worked great for the first few months, although it was awkward getting the powder into the reservoir, but then the part you turn to make the brush extend and retract cracked making it virtually useless other than a regular brush since it now won't go back down.
I've not had much of a problem getting the powder to come out onto the brush as some reviewers have. If you give it a good couple of taps on the palm of your had it usually comes out fine.
I wouldn't recomment this to anyone becuase it doesn't last. Maybe if the design flaws are fixed I might try it again...
plastic eventually cracks and brush breaks
I liked the brush a lot and did not have issues getting powder out, you just need to give it a thorough shake when the brush is in the "open" position. However, after using it for a few months, the bottom base cracked and I can no longer turn the dial to retract the brush... Waste of money
Don't pay for aggravation
The idea of this product is great, but the implementation is nonexistent. I had no luck at all getting this product to work. So I went to the reviews hoping someone else had the same experience and could explain how they finally got it to work. It turned out that almost everyone had the same experience and never found a way to make it work. So my conclusion is that I wasted my money and Bare Escentuals should discontinue selling the item. Very disappointing.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY
I purchased two of these thinking it would be a great convenience for travel. I really wanted this product to work. I tried to make this function in so many ways but the product never dispenses onto the brush. These should all be recalled for a credit. Right now this is an over-sized and needless brush in my makeup drawer.
Not what I hoped for
After reading the other reviews it seems as though we all agree that it is a great idea, but the mechanics of it are not yet working. Most of the time I was not even sure if it was working or not and I think that I probably wasted more than I used by trying to open it and accidentally spilling it or continuing to shake it not knowing if any came out or not. This is a great idea, though, like I said before. It just didn't work for me.
yep. in the trash.
After reading the reviews (trying to find if there is a decent way to clean this brush on my last attempt to recover), I finally got the courage to toss it in the garbage. Like most of the reviews you read here:
-product does not come out
I have been using it as a powder transport and using a separate brush. I have never gotten this thing to work. I have no idea how to clean it (because of the compartment/ potential for clogging), and have never used it as it was meant to be used- as a portable powder and brush. I have been dragging it around my bag for two years and am OVER IT.
I love BE, but do not buy this. The brand and the customers are better than this.
The worst of bare minerals
I love your products. I cannot believe this one is still being sold. I bought this several years ago at your highest end retailer. From day one I could not get it to dispense. Still cannot get it to dispense. Remove it from your line. You are too good for it.
I had purchased this when it first came out, thinking the concept was an awesome idea. It was very difficult to fill and once filled I could hardly get any product out. What a waste of money. I wish I would have thought of returning it back then. Instead it sat in my makeup drawer for a couple of years and finally went on the trash. Very disappointing.
Do Not Buy
I wish I had read these reviews before I bought this brush in a boutique. It does not work at all. Getting the foundation from the jar is ridiculous and then it absolutely refuses to come out of the brush. Then when it finally does come out of the brush it's a landslide of powder. It now sits quietly in my make up drawer taunting me.
very disappointed in product
The product idea is a fantastic one, to be able to have a "all in one" at your finger tips when you need to freshen/touch up your face. Even after replacing a defective Refillable Buffing Brush, I still couldn't get the foundation out. The holder will get clogged and it seems the only way I can use the product is to; unscrew the bottom, VERY CAREFULLY shake a little of the powder into the brush cap and then use the brush to apply.
After reading the other reviews, it appears that Bare Minerals customers like the product idea but wish it would work. I hope the mechanics can be resolved.
Doesn't live up to claims
I like BM matte foundation, however hate that my bathroom, makeup bag, and purse are covered in it. I saw this product and thought it would be a great solution to the messy powder. Unfortunately, it doesn't deliver.
First problem is that BM foundation containers are not designed to open so that the powder may be scooped out and into the powder chamber of the refillable brush. I have found that the easiest way to get the powder out of the original container is to shake it over a piece of paper, then roll the paper into a cone shape and shake the powder into the empty chamber end of the refillable brush. It gets the job done, but is messy and time consuming.
Second problem is that there is no way to increase the amount of product deposited. There are arrows at the bottom of the brush indicating that more or less powder will come out of the brush depending on which way you turn it. THIS DOESN'T WORK. No matter which way I turn the brush, very very very little product ever comes out.
Overall, a huge disappointment. I wish BM would fix the design and allow those who wasted money on this piece of junk to exchange it.
Ordered 4 as gifts. I will be requesting a refund.
Wonderful bush to use
This is the second one I have gotten. Both 1st one and this new one are the same. Easy to take a part and fill with your favitor powder. It real easy to use and to take with you or if you do not have a lot of room for all your make up.
I first used a travel brush through Sheer minerals brand, and when i saw that BM had one I couldn't spend the $30 soon enough. But have not yet been able to use it. Regardless of how much product is in it, or what setting it is on, the product does not come out sufficiently to apply, I have to open it up and use a brush and it's a mess. I wish there was an upgrade available and we could return these.
I've always liked the Mineral Veil, but the powder is so fine that I always have trouble with it flying up into the air when I tried to tap it out of the container. This brush completely solves that problem! I think that the issue a lot of people are having with this brush it that after the brush comes all the way up you have to keep turning it as far as you can to get the powder to come out.
I agree with the comments about how hard the brush is to fill with powder. I think BM should revist that or better yet come out with an already filled container that you can just purchase to screw into the bottom.
Once I got the powder filled and used in only once, I'm back for a second one to leave in my make-up drawer. I think this brush allows me to applied a more even coat of product.
I Honestly Hate this Brush
I received two of these and thought they were a great idea. I read the instructions and followed them carefully however, when the container was filled and screwed back on I could not get the brush to go back down. I tried and tried but it would only turn a fraction of the way to close. I then took the second one I received and tested the "turning" situation. It seemed to work just fine so I proceeded to fill the second brush with product. After completing this task and reading the instructions yet again to make sure I had not done something wrong I was again disappointed. Once filled with product the brush will not go down, close or turn to buffing, it just sits there and will not budge to close. I hate this product in that I tried with two brushes, carefully followed instructions and now I have these two brushes filled with my favorite product that are completely useless and of course, since my brushes do not work, I cannot retrieve the product back. What a waste of time and product.
Hit or Miss
When I bought this product I couldn't wait to try it, I thought it would be perfect to stick in my purse and it use it on the go, especially in the late afternoon to just re-vamp my makeup and make it look fresh again through the end of the day. After I finally was able to add a couple scoops of my foundation to the canister (which was a nightmare to get the plug off my foundation!) and after shaking the fill able brush continuously for almost a minute, the foundation finally came through the bristles in the brush. When I started to buff it on my face, way too much was coming out, it was very uneven and I felt like I was wasting my foundation because there was nowhere for me to tap off the excess, I just had to keep buffing it on my face until I had way too much foundation on. I really wanted this product to work but sadly it doesn't quite come up to par. I'll still use it, just with caution, it'll come in handy in a pinch.
Maybe I am not doing it correctly
I bought this for on the go makeup touch ups and have been disappointed since its arrival. I followed the directions to "t" and stil very very little product comes out on the brush. Can someone in Customer Service help me? Also I bought a max coverage brush and it looks like the bristles have been cut or something. What do I do about getting a replacement?
Very disappointed in this product
I was so excited when this product came out. The thought of being able to apply my foundation on the go and not end of wearing most of it on my clothes made me very happy. I purchased it this weekend and tried to use it but no luck. Very little if any powder came out. I tried several times and even took the powder out and refilled it and still nothing. I think it is a great idea but needs work and also needs to be smaller.
I normally love all the BM products, but I'm very disappointed in the refillable buffing brush. When I first saw this product, I thought wow this will be convenient to carry in my purse, but the make-up gets clogged and will not come out. Even though I'm disappointed in this one thing, I'm still going to buy BM.
Cheap and poorly made
This item was one I was really looking forward to adding to my tools of make-up art. I am picky about my brushes, so for comparison sake., I also got another companies professional brush of the same type.
BE's brush performance was not acceptable. I used it a few times before it fell off the table. Something broke on the interior, the brush head fell off, and it stopped working completely. I cannot even get my product out.
The other brush is still working like a champ, and a lot more has happened to it beside a trip to the floor.
They are similar in price. I am a long time customer and I expect better quality from this company.
Refillable Buffing Brush & Mini Refill Brush
I have used the Refillable Buffing Brush and loved it. I want to replace it.
I read in one of the reviews about the mini refiil brush
I would like to purchase both but do not find the mimi refill brush on your web site
Just what I needed for BE on the go.
This works well. It fits in my purse easy and I can see if there is still product available with the clear container at the base. Toss the spoon. Use FT's suggestion above and make a little funnel out of paper. That made loading the brush super easy. Amber26 has great step by step instructions for how to operate the brush above too but once you get it in your hand, you'll see how it works. I should have gotten this sooner. Way easier than carrying a container and brush.
I knew this brush was a winner from the day I set my eyes on it. I bought it along with my starter kit but gave myself a few days before trying it out. It's 11pm and I just filled it with mineral veil and applied over make-up that I have had on since 6:30am. Perfect.
Here's how to use it:
1) Read the manual.
2) Make a funnel out of a small piece of paper such as a receipt, but with asymmetric ends so that the narrow end can fit in the transparent holder for your product and the wide end can take the product you're pouring in without a spill.
Gotta think like a scientist on this one or get someone who thinks like one to help you, such as your teenager. Good luck ladies. For me, all I need to leave the house with is the mineral veil because of my seeping oil in my T-zone problem. And with such great products from BE, I only need touch-up once or maybe twice throughout my 12 hr day.
Good Concept, Poor Design
I (thankfully) received this brush for free as part of a promotion. I was excited about it because I thought it would be a convenient way to carry my mineral veil in my purse for a touch-up throughout the day. I was able to fill the brush by following the directions with no problems.
My problems came after...once I filled my brush with mineral veil, I tried to practice applying it. Not sure what the problem was but I could not get the product onto the brush tips for even application. I couldn't get a steady flow of MV onto the brush no matter how many times I shook or tapped it.
Another problem was the durability of the brush. I accidentally knocked it off my vanity onto the ceramic tile floor. The brush head popped out and the twist mechanism has not worked since. :(
