Q & A

MATTE Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 15 - null 4.5 5 141 142
LOVE this foundation. This is my favorite foundation. I've been using bareminerals since I started wearing makeup at age 14. About a year and a half ago I stopped using it because it is SO expensive and wanted to give liquid foundation a try...well, I've have seen the error of my ways and recently started using bareminerals again. I had forgotten just how great it feels on my skin! It's super light, and I love the way it looks, very natural and glowing, and it stays on really well. I've found that (for me) the matte stays on better than the original. I just wish it wasn't so expensive! 08/29/2015
Enhanced lines & pores! This stuff made my face look horrible. What a waste of money. Gritty& blotchy. It must be a different formula. I've used this foundation back in the90's & early 2000's & this stuff does not compare. It enhanced pores & wrinkles that weren't visible before. Settled into every line. Made me look much older & garish. I've always been told I look much younger than I am & have great skin. This did nothing to enhance it. Also purchased the original foundation & I would not call it original. Only slightly better that this formula. Will not ever use again. 08/11/2015
Beautiful Coverage I usually wear Medium and needed something a bit darker for the summer. This is perfect. Very natural looking and feels fantastic on my skin. 08/09/2015
Great for oily skin!! I wasn't sure if this type of foundation would stay on (I work in a dental office, so I wear a mask most of the day) and the foundation look like a just applied it at the end of the day. Of course, I touch up my nose after lunch but I don't have that greasy look at all! LOVE this stuff..won't be going back to any other kind. 08/09/2015
Undertaker Approved I've used Bare Minerals since the 1980s and I've never had my skin look anything but fabulous. However, since I'm getting older I thought I'd try the matte foundation. It was supposed to look natural and minimize the pores, etc. Instead, my skin looked dead. I was shocked after I applied it (the same way I've done for years with the original formula) and looked at the results. What my mirror showed me was the same kind of appearance you'd see if an undertaker had done the makeup application. I thought, "I may be getting older, but I'm not dead yet!" I'm going back to the original formula and looking forward to seeing that subtle "glow" again! 08/07/2015
Best Foundation Ever Love this foundation !!!!!!! I am Warm Deep Matte. Perfect Match ! I have a back up in my stash .. I love this foundation... My friend said I looked "annoyingly flawless" after 12 hours of wear , no touch upLOL Thanks for a great product Bare Minerals 08/03/2015
Love it...wish it were cheaper!! I absolutely love this foundation. It blends incredibly well and looks amazing. I wish either the containers/contents were bigger/more or it cost less. It is a little on the expensive side. 07/27/2015
My favorite foundation I love this matte loose foundation! It keeps my face looking fresh longer; I tend to look shiny halfway through the day with the original foundation. 07/25/2015
WOW Wonderful product. Addresses the issue of combination skin while providing SPF protection. 07/24/2015
Wonderful Foundation! The mineral foundation in Matte is great for my oily and sensitive skin! I love that it covers well and looks natural. I use the golden tan shade and it matches my warmer tan skin tone great! I use the full flawless face brush and swirl inside the lid for around 15 seconds and then begin buffing the foundation on my face. I suggest starting with just a little product and then adding more as needed for full coverage. 07/23/2015

I am also 58 I would recommend the luminous ( original)since you have normal skin. I have oily skin so I use the matte version. I get very good results when using a primer & find it absolutely does not settle in my wrinkles like other make-ups. As far as what shade it's hard to say just be aware the actual product is lighter than it appears on-line. I ordered based on the images but ended up going to Sephora to get color matched, if this is not possible for you I would call customer service they are helpful maybe if you can think of a famous movie star whose skin color most matches yours they can recommend the right shade for you. Hopes this helps.

I've never had this with any other make-up foundation and I have used the same liquid primer for almost 10 years now. I love the way this product makes the rest of my skin look and feel but it is so frustrating and embarrassing to deal with. Also, I do not have the gathering of make-up in my smile lines when I simply wear a primer foundation so I know it has to be the matte finish that is causing this issue. Thank you in advance BM.

Hi! I tried the Matte foundation and ran into the same problem. I think the ingredient causing this is the silica, as the other foundations that I've used with this ingredient tend to be pretty cakey. However, I don't have this problem at all when using BM's Original foundation. It actually makes my skin look younger, as it's more nourishing and luminous (in my opinion). I also use the mineral veil at the end to get more of a matte finish. Good luck to you!

im a warm tan powders and have tried bare skin and complexion rescue. honestly unless you want to use multiple items , there isn't a shade that matches. i tried bare walnut and turned out really paste-y even though it looked like it would match. the only thing i can say is to maybe take a chance on espresso or bare mocha since they're the only 2 shades left. one of them may work

really any age! Perfect for pre-teens and adults. This foundation doesn't have any harsh ingredients in it that can cause acne like some drugstore foundations. Your skin actually changes a lot with this makeup. It's smoother, softer, and doesn't clog your pores. The mineral veil really seals in the powder foundation. It absorbs oil and it's great to have if you get oily throughout the day.

Absolutely it is safe for them to use. I dont recommend it at all for though. Its very gentle on the skin but it is not great for acne. I have bad bright red acne sometimes cysts. It covers but looks very unnatural and cakey if you need quite a bit of coverage. I suggest if you do purchase it to make sure to use primer and some form of green cream to reduce the redness. I find using a concealer specifically on the bumps helps too.

I started using makeup in 6th grade at age 12 and even though I am still in my teens, this makeup is one of the best I have used (and I have tried a lot).
It feels and looks natural and I have many allergies and sensitive skin.
Their finishing powder is also light and great.
No matter what age this is a great makeup brand and better than a lot of those heavier and less natural foundations out there.

Hi Cammie! I run into the same problem as Summer ends. I have yet to find the perfect shade down from medium beige that isn't too light, so what I do is buy Fairly Light and mix in small amounts of Medium Beige until I get the desired result. I like being able to control the color but do wish there were more shade options for lighter skin tones with neutral undertones. Good luck to you!

Yes I believe so! The Matte may be a bit darker but it is hardly noticeable! When I went to get my shade match in the store the artist tried on both and told me that they look the same on me. (Medium Beige) The only real big difference is the finish between Matte and Illuminated.

Yes, they are the same color, with Mattes just not having a that "glowy" look (from the mica in the Original). The Matte may be a teeeennnyy shade darker, but not enough to need a whole new shade.

Hope this helps!

I honestly can't say if this has any type of oil or not, but I can tell you it's great for acne-prone skin. I have acne and my face gets oily, I have been using this product for some time now and it has never made my face break out worse and it hides and acne and acne scars very well. I highly recommend trying it!

I have had acne for a good portion of my life. This foundation has never made my face break out (milk actually contributes to my acne so I switched to almond milk), however, this make up really helps cover the discoloration caused by acne. Once my face cleared up after switching milk, I love this make up even more! I get comments all the time about my skin and I know it's the make up that makes it glow! It it not oily or heavy. It is actually quite light and I believe the ingredients are listed on the site. No oil that I know of!

I have had oily, sensitive skin prone to breakout nearly all my life. I wish that Bare Minerals had been established decades ago. Bare Minerals products do NOT clog my pores or break out my skin, unlike so many other brands that even claim to be non-comedogenic, even those very expensive brands. I had to stop wearing makeup years ago until I tried Bare Minerals. I use the Matte Foundation along with the primer for oily skin which keep my skin looking and feeling good all day. I also use the Exfoliating Cleanser (a powder) which does not irritate my sensitive skin. Hope this helps.

Is the color right for you, are you using a primer and a finishing powder?
If not, I would get a color that matches your neck and your body.
Also make sure to use primer and to use a finishing powder. I have oily skin, and even this brand gets oily on me, but with the mineral veil its still matte.
I use the matte foundation (powder) which is nice and light and good for oil skin. I wouldn't use a liquid foundation for oily or sensitive skin.
Apply with a flat brush in a circular motion which evens out the tone, and make sure to do the makeup down your neck as well. Then use a powder brush to apply a finishing powder.

I have the oiliest skin on the planet so I can relate. I use sephora silicone free primer after cleansing my skin. Then I apply a layer of mineral veil to my entire face, concentrating on the t-zone. I then apply my matte BM foundation, concealer, blush..etc. I add another layer of mineral veil and voila shine free for a couple of hours at least lol. Mineral veil is perfect for touching up through out the day too!

I had the exact same problem a little while ago (I am 14). I went without makeup for about two weeks before I got super self-conscious about the redness on my face. First of all, your face could be a little red due to sun. Even though it's winter, I wear sunscreen EVERY day to protect my skin. SPF is a life saver. I wear Shiseido Oil Free Urban Environment Sunscreen. It's not oily and doesn't make your skin white. If you wear this, and then a light powder, you should feel confident without feeling like you're wearing a mask. That's what I do! I wear sunscreen under a little powder (BareMinerals Matte Foundation) and I am good to go! My friends say that it looks super natural and that they can't tell that I am wearing makeup! I hope this helps :)

Please don't go without makeup, because good makeup, like Bare Minerals, helps to protect your skin from negative effects of the environment, such as air pollution, sun damage, very dry air and cold weather to name a few. I have had very oily and sensitive skin nearly all my life, and Bare Minerals is the best I have used for my skin. To start I always wash my hands before I touch my face. Cleaning my very oily skin is important, and Bare Minerals has good treatment products for oily skin. I especially like the Exfoliating Cleanser which does not irritate my also sensitive skin. Before applying makeup I use the primer for oily skin - I don't use a lot either. I slightly wet my fingertips with water to help smooth on the primer. Then I apply the Matte Foundation powder with a clean brush. This combination keeps my oil in check for nearly all day.

With this kind of a product you want to use a shine free(oil free) primer first before putting this on. Also, use the matte version to help with the shine. With this product, less really is more. Start with a little and it should form to your face. This is what i do. Hope this helps.

Make sure you cleanse first, use a moisturizer ( oily controlling is good like the combination skin moisturizer by bare essentials), use the foundation primer. Then apply. If it looks like a mask you are likely applying it too heavy. You may want to find a boutique or sephora store to color match you. Also when you load the brush it is important you tap out the excess so it does not cake on when you apply it.

First, if you are not wearing a primer, you probably should. This is the number one problem most people have when it comes to makeup-meltdown. Second, start off with a tiny amount of foundation and build on your coverage. Third, make sure you set it with Mineral Veil, a lot of people think that this does not make a difference but it really does! After this step, you can use a setting spray to lock in everything if you think this won't be enough. And finally, if all else fails, you may want to try plan B:) hope this helps and good luck!

I apply one pump of the oil free primer to my face, then tap out a little of the matte foundation into the lid. I swirl the product with my full flawless face brush for 15-20 seconds and then buff it all around my face. I then tap out a very small amount of the concealer and use the flawless face brush to press into the product a little before patting into areas on my face that I want to conceal.

The easiest method would be to wet the brush for your concealer and apply that first. Then apply foundation by swirling and patting it in!
