Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser 4.6 5 88 88
Cleanses better than anything else I have tried I was really shocked by this product. I was skeptical that a powder could cleanse my face better than a liquid cleanser. Its amazing though. It does take some getting used to, there is no guideline on how to mix the powder with water so it takes a little trial and error to figure out how much of each to use. Its better to start off with very little water. I love that I can fly with this product and not have to worry about it being liquid. When I used liquid cleansers my face would seem clean and then I would dry my face and find make up left on my towels, not the case here. Plus, after cleansing my face isn't left feeling dry and in need of serious moisturizer. Plus I can use it as a mask. Its a great multitasking product, and even though your not supposed to use it on your eyes, it takes my mascara off! 03/20/2011
Greatest Cleanser Ever! I absolutely love this cleanser. I tried it once, and it tore the layers of my skin off. I went back to the boutique to return it, and they advised me to wait several days before trying it again, and not to use it the morning after I use the glow pads. Ever since, my skin has looked brighter and felt softer than ever. For those of you that have sensitive skin and have the glow pads, don't use this cleanser every day, because it would be too much exfoliation. Otherwise, this cleanser is best used in the morning! 05/08/2013
Never using another exfoliator I have the biggest issues with my pores so I thought the tougher the exfoliate, the better. I did not realize that the harsh products I used before were actually making MORE problems for my skin. It took some getting used to with this powder because I had always used liquids before. Once I figured out the just-right mixture of powder and water I was shocked at how incredibly gentle but effective this product is. My skin is much smoother and my pores are smaller instead of more irritated! I know why this product gets such amazing reviews...I can't imagine using any other exfoliate now. It is gentle enough to use everyday. It is a permanent part of my skincare routine. 05/03/2013
Glowing skin. I love to use this as a mask for a deep cleaning twice a week. I put a good layer on my tee zone and a light layer on the rest of my face. Perfect for in the shower with the steam. My pores are tight, clean and my skin looks brighter. 04/21/2013
leaves my skin so smooth using it twice a day and it is terrific. expected it to be too harsh to use twice a day but it is not. leaves my skin like I want it to be. 04/05/2013
Love this product! I don't usually write reviews for products, but I am so pleased with this one that I had to give feedback. I have never found a cleanser, high end or low end, that has quit met my expectations and/or needs. I was quite skeptical about this cleanser but was feeling adventurous and bought it on a whim......that was a great move. I have combo skin that goes to extremes......super oily in the t-zone, extra dry and sensitive in other areas. My skin tone also tends to be splotchy and red and my pores across my nose and cheeks are huge....embarrasingly so. I wasn't even looking for cleanser, but a sales rep suggested it (I think she saw that I really needed this). I am so pleased with the outcome! My pores have been reduced so much so that they don't bother me anymore. My face seems to make it longer through the day without getting oily and my dry areas are not irritated and flaky anymore. My skin tone has evened out dramatically! Other reviewers commented about feeling like they could go without make-up and their skin glowing and I could not agree more! Others complained about the smell of the product but it is rice powder....it smells like rice powder and is free of perfume. I wouldn't say that it smells good, but it certainly doesn't smell bad. This is a little more than I like to spend on cleansers because they don't typically deliver. But, since this product does so much for me, I am willing to pay a little more for it. Love the product, glad I caved to my whim! 04/03/2013
Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser Use a little water and product at a time to find the texture you like. It's not rough or harsh at all! This smooths out the rough spots! I like to combine this with the Deep Foam Cleanser in the morning. It provides a great base for your BE! 04/01/2013
Greatest pore reduction treatment ever! This is by far my favorite skin care item from Bare Minerals. It is a dry powder that you can use in so many ways to treat your skin. It has become a part of my daily skin care routine, and I have seen tremendous results from this product. I have sensitive skin, so it is hard for me to find something that can cleanse my skin well, but at the same time not irritate me. I also have large pores across my cheeks and nose. This Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser has refined the texture of my skin, making it look brighter and more youthful, as well as reducing the size of my pores to the point that their appearance no longer bothers me. Yea!!! Here's an outline of my daily routine - 1. In the shower, I apply refined organic coconut oil to remove my makeup by slathering on my face, then remove by using a wet wipe. Works great to clean waterproof eye makeup, and doesn't sting my eyes or my skin. I use this because I have yet to find any other makeup remover that does not irritate my skin or eyes. I wear contacts, so of course I remove them before undergoing this process. As long as the oil is cleared away properly, there have been no problems using this and wearing contacts. 2. Apply Bare Minerals Purifying Facial Cleanser, massage in, and rinse face. I have a dry towel handy just outside the shower I use to remove most of the excess water from my skin and hands. I then pour a half-dollar size amount of the Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser into my mostly dry hand, and add a few drops of water and work into the cleanser until a very thick paste is formed - it only takes a couple of drops. 3. Apply paste to face like a mask, working in circular motions, and being careful not to get face wet. 4. I then go about my shower while leaving the mask on, so it's on my face for a good 10 minutes. The instructions on the Cleanser say it can be used as a face mask occasionally, but I use it this way daily, and I have had no irritation. In fact, I believe my skin has greatly benefited from using this Cleanser as a daily mask. 5. Before I rinse the Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser completely off my face, I add just a little water so the cleanser becomes "workable", and then give myself a facial massage, concentrating on the areas where my pores had been a problem, working in a gentle circular motion. I work this in for a good two minutes. 6. Rinse, dry, then go about the rest of my skin care routine after shower - I also use the Active Cell Renewal Serum, Multi-Wrinkle Repair, Moisturizer, and Pure Transformation Night Treatment. Other ways I use the Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser - 1. After cleansing skin, I have combined the powder with coconut oil instead of water and used this as a moisturizing facial mask. 2. If I am in a hurry, I will skip the mask routine and combine the Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser with the liquid Purifying Facial Cleanser instead of water, and wash my face with this combination. 3. If I have a blemish, which is fortunately a rare occurrence now, I will combine a small amount of this cleanser with Bare Minerals' acne treatment powder and a teeny tiny drop of water to create a paste, then apply it to the blemish overnight. Wake up in the morning, wash face, and blemish will be greatly reduced or gone. My skin has never looked better. It is luminous, soft, and I have far less breakouts now (only around that time of the month). I really think this routine has taken 5 years off my appearance. I'm almost 40, but you'd never know by looking at my skin! Thanks Bare Minerals for making the ONLY product to ever work on reducing the appearance of my pores! 03/10/2013
Surprisingly great face cleanser I got the BE trial skin care set as a gift. I was really surprised and a little hesitant about the powder form of this face cleanser. I had never heard of anything like it. I really like this product. It removes all traces of my mineral foundation and other face products. It doesn't dry my skin out and the powder gently exfoliates. My skin looks brighter and more luminous than it ever has.. and it's winter! Unheard of! 03/09/2013
A Converted Proactive User I LOVE IT AND I'M NEVER GOING BACK. This is the first product to get me off of using Proactive after a 7 year habit. I have horrible acne and Proactive was fine until I reached my 30's, then it started to distroy my sensitive skin. I haven't needed anything but the Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser and the associated travel kit and my skin is better and clearer than ever in my life. Yes it took about a month to have my face stop exploding but my skin is healthier than ever and I love it. This is also the most cost friendly cleanser that Bare Minerals makes. When it says to use wet hands and a small amount. For me this means about a teaspoon and soaking wet hands and I have the perfect amount. 02/23/2013

This cleanser physically and gently exfoliates as opposed to chemical exfoliation. I am outdoors a lot and am very sensitive to chemical exfoliants and sun exposure. This product is great in that it effectively exfoliates my skin without chemicals that cause irritation.

My skin became clogged, developed larger pores, and pores that I had never noticed before after using Mac foundation for a few years. I'd love if I could find a product that got rid of my patches of orange peel and return it to the state it was before. Anyone know which product would work better for this?

I also have large pores. I have tried a few of the cleansers and the Exfoliating treatment cleanser seems to do the best for me. I have cystic acne and haven't had a cyst since I moved to using this cleanser twice a day. It is also the most cost friendly of their cleansers and travels easily at the airport.

Personally I love the exfoliating cleanser. It takes some time to get use to mixing the powder + water together, but you'll get the hang of it! I found the foam to be too thick (and maybe containing too many oils?) and I broke out from it.

I have used the powder cleanser for 5 years and as a former BE Beauty Ambassador I can tell you that I had countless clients who saw amazing things happen to their skin with the Rare skinscare. Best of luck!

I think the exfoliating cleanser would work well for you based on my expirence. I use the exfoliating cleanser as my daily wash. I tryed the deep cleansing foam and like it for every know and then but I found that it cleans to deep. If you are lazey and don't get your face wash that night I found the may face would break out.

hi, you need to give your skin a chance to recover. don't expect a miracle over night. i have combination skin so i use the exfoliating cleanser twice a week in the morning in place of the deep cleanser. the deep cleanser, i use in the morning and in the night i use the purifying cleanser. i don't believe using the exfoliating cleanser should be used everyday - it may be too aggresive.

it depends on your skin type. if you have oily, combination skin it is good to exfoliate twice a week. if your skin is dry, you need to ease up on the frequency.

I have both the exfoliating cleanser and the deep cleansing foam. What I have found that works well for me is using the cleaning foam in the morning and using the exfoliating cleanser at night. I prefer the exfoliating cleanser at night which does a really good job at getting rid of all my make-up, sweat, etc from the day. On the other hand the deep cleansing foam is a tad bit more mild which is why I like this product in the morning. Sometimes when my face really needs a good rub down i'll use the two together, put a little bit of both in my hand, add a bit of water, rub together and then apply directly to my face. I believe this little routine could work well for both the purifying facial cleanser and the exfoliating treatment cleanser.

the exfoliating cleanser is very gentle. You can use it everyday in the AM and use Purifying at night when you remove your makeup. Also you can mix them together and use them that way if you want to. I also love to use the exfoliating cleanser as a mask once a week.

hi, if you have sensitive skin like me please don't expect an overnight miracle. give your skin a chance to get used to this new product. i was extremely nervous like you but decided to give it a shot. you won't know unless you try, remember everyone is different.
my skin took about a month to get used to it. it hasn't made my acne worse at all. it's better, i remember when i used to use a toner and then my skin would be oily right after using it. and it was a toner specifically for my skin type. i hated that. now my skin doesn't look as oily at all. sometimes i won't use an oil absorbing sheet until the afternoon (after washing my face early in the morning). right now i am not sure if using the deep foaming cleanser all the time is the best thing for me. i'm actually going to post a question about this, somehow i feel it's a little too tough on my sensitive skin. maybe i need to alternate with the purifying... which clearly states it's gentle.

First, let me say that I love BE products, and I've been pleased with every item I've tried so far, including the Purifying Facial Cleanser, Purely Nourishing Moisturizer, and Firming Eye Treatment in this line. My question, though, is about ingredients:

I'm trying to figure out what I "should" be using at age 25 for the best skin care. I'm reading a lot that for 25-35, cleansers with salicylic acid and masks/peels with glycolic acid are still best (even though I know the word "acid" is scary to a lot of people). This product has neither, and I'm just curious ... Does anyone else subscribes to this kind of ingredient loyalty? Does it really make much difference, or are these things worth seeking out? Thanks!

I think it depends on your skin type and what kind of activities you do as to what type of cleansers you use. I am older than you (knocking on 40), but I have sensitive skin and am outdoors a lot with a great deal of sun exposure. Salicylic and gylcolic acids tend to intensify the damaging effects of the sun so I avoid them as much as possible. I have found this cleanser to be very effective in providing all the great benefits you would expect from the acids without the damaging side effects.

Hey there! I'm 27 and I have used the entire Rare skincare system for almost 5 years. I get compliments on my skin constantly---even just checking out at Target! I adore the line, but I know what you mean about being curious bout the ingredients. Since I hit 27 (okay, I'm lying, I turn 27 on Friday)---so since 27 is on the horizon----I've been looking into more heavy duty anti-aging efforts, and my research turned up the same info as yours did.

BE used to have a line called MD Formulations (you can see a tab for it at the top of this page) which has some of the acid products you're talking about. (I would describe this as the more chemically skincare line, vs rare which is much more pure.) I've kind of mixed and matched some of the Rare products with MD!

Best of luck!

I would say that it depends on your skin. I personally can't use any acid cleansers for my face because it causes my face to dry out and get really itchy. The exfoliating cleanser is so gentle that you can use it two times a day without any worry, it really does leave your face very clean, like squeaky clean without bothering it at all.

Not sure exactly what product you are speaking of. It depends. If you are speaking of powder foundations, not really. Powder foundations dry the skin out. They absorb a lot of oil. Unless you are very oily, I would not use this. I think they will find in a few years that the powder foundations are actually aging because of how they dry skin out. Fine for young skin, but older skin not so much. You would need a facial primer, like the brightening. Then I am still not sure how it would be. It also does in fact settle in lines and wrinkles.
The other face products are nice. Love be primers, love be eye primers, love be shadows, love be glosses, love be blushes. The skin care is great for sensitive skin. Those products would work for you.

Hello! I also have a Clarisonic and use the Exfoliating Cleasner. Based on what I have read, you can use exfoliating cleansers with the Clarisonic as long as they are not the type that have "shells"/larger pieces in them to exfoliate. The BE Exfoliating Cleasner doesn't, so it is fine to use....I have and there hasn't been a problem.

I absolutely love BE products and after reading the description and reviews on this new Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser, I decided to order it yesterday. So far, everyone is saying how soft and smooth their skin feels right after applying this treatment before bed or waking up, so is it necessary to use a facial moisturizer right after too? I'm use to applying a facial mask twice a week and still use facial moisturizer, but didn't know if this product was any different, afterall, it is labeled as an exfoliating cleanser, not a lotion or moisturizer.

hi, yes you need to use a moisturizer after using the exfoliating treatment. even more importantly so because you've removed layers of skin that you would not really do during normal cleansing and you need to pamper the new exposed skin to keep it supple and well hydrated.

Personally, I think that it is always best for your skin to moisturize after cleansing. The Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser is a cleanser, you mix it with water, scrub, and wash off. It does leave my face very soft, but my skin still needs the Purely Nourishing Moisturizer very lightly after and my skin loves me!

Hey, Georgia Peach!

First off, it's not really necessary to use a different mask if you're using the Exfoliating Cleanser every day. You can use this as a mask as often as you want - just wash your face and don't rinse; put your shoes on, feed the cat, whatever. It will dry in about 3 minutes & when you rinse it off, you'll be smooth and soft.

As far as whether to use a moisturizer; yes. This is just a cleanser. It won't 'dry' your skin out like some cleansers, but your skin still needs hydration to keep it supple and halt those wrinkles in their tracks.

If your skin is normal/combination (a bit of oil in t-zone) the Purely Nourishing Moisturizer is perfect. If your skin feels tight after washing it, or you have dry or flaky patches, I would recommend the Purely Nourishing Cream. Both of the moisturizers are oil-free and you can use them night and day - even the Cream is sheer enough to wear under your makeup all day.

Just remember that this Exfoliating Cleanser is NOT made with broken nut shells or rough ingredients that feel 'scrubby.' Rather than 'scraping' the top layer of your skin off (and tearing & irritating your skin), the RareMinerals Active Soil Complex (basically pure soil) massages your skin and sloughs off the dead cells.

Enjoy!

I generally use a BE moisturizer after using the Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser, just because I love how it feels and not necessarily because I have to. The nice thing about the cleanser is that it won't take the essential oils out of your skin. Therefore, you won't end up with a face that's crying for moisture. Long story short, you probably don't HAVE to follow with a moisturizer, but it sure is nice!

I have an old Rareminerals kit that came with the exfoliating cleanser, night treatment, eye cream, and moisturizer. It says to wash your face first, then use moisturizer, then the night treatment, then the eye cream It does recommend that you use the cleanser and moisturizer twice per day.

One of the reviewers says that the active soil complex is the exfoliating property. I've used this for over a month and do not feel or see the exfoliating effects. My question is, then, how does this differ from the daily facial cleanser which also has the active soil complex.

Hi, if you look at the video in the "experience" section and then search for skin care collections you'll see the explanation about what exactly the active soil complex is. They did not mention exfoliating effects...but BE does have an impressive exfoliating cleanser that would achieve the exfoliation you are looking for.

A few of the exfoliants I see in this product are kaolin, starch from rice and tapioca, as well as lemon peel. Kaolin clay and the starches perform a double duty as they have been known to absorb excess oil from the skin. You also get mother natures's skin soothing, anti-aging, and antioxidant properties of essential oils and plant extracts plus the added benefits of Active Soil Complex.
Most of all, makes this product extraordinary is that you can customize its application according to your need. You may reduce the amount of water you use according to the amount of exfoliation you need. Less water means more exfoliation. For morning cleansing, I wet my face and hands, place a small dollop of powder on my palm and with my other wet hand, add some more water until its like a wet paste then apply it to my face. For evening, I only add 2-4 drops of water keeping it at a pastey powdery consistency for more exfoliating. After each use, with skin feeling soft and renewed, I follow it with the Purely Nourishing Mousturizer and treat any potential and current breakouts with Blemish Therapy. And, along with PrimeTime creating an even smoother canvas for my morning BareMinerals makeup regimen.

I don't know what the exfoliating components are, but when I use the purifying cleanser at night and the exfoliating cleanser in the morning. When I wash with both products, I add natural, unbleached sugar to them to help with the exfoliating. It seems to get the dead skin off much better than the cleansers themselves.

The Exfoliating cleanser is different from the purifying due to the texture. Purifying is more gentle where as the exfoliating is one where you can choose the consistancy. Exfoliating does not mean that it is supposed to tingle or anything like that but because the exfoliating is more rough it is helping to exfoliate and remove all the dirt in your pores. The active soil complex itself is not meant to exfoliate but it is to help promote healthy cell turn over which is why it is good to have in any cleanser or skin care routine. It also helps feed your body nutrients and anti oxidents in levels greater than a blue berry or pomegranit. The best thing I have found in the exfoliating cleanser is making a mask out of it and letting it dry to your face so you can let your body soak in all those wonderful nutrients your body needs.

I have ALL the bareMinerals skin care products (and I do mean ALL of them!) but I can't seem to get the hang of this one. Maybe I am using too much water but I don't feel ANY exfoliation going on here. Can anyone tell me what THEY do to FEEL results? Thanks!

you need to go easy on the water. add literally a few drops to the exfoliating powder in the palm of your hand. gently work the water into the cleanser and add drop by drop until it's a easily spread paste. i shake the bottle about 6 times (that's how much cleanser i am happy with) and usually i use about 6-8 drops of water. i just let the drop run along my finger onto the cleanser.

It isn't supposed to be harsh, it is exfoliating, you just don't feel it as much. I get my hands wet and then put a little on my palm and rub them together to activate and then wash my face for about a minute or so, the longer you scrub the better it works. You can also use it as a mask, if you wanted to. Just put it on just like you would if you were washing and let dry and rinse. Hope this helps:)

It's not a harsh exfoliater-like some other drug store scrubs that are actually too harsh for your skin and are made of walnut shells (ouch!). If you want more exfoliating, I'd suggest adding some unbleached organic sugar to the cleanser while you cleanse. It will exfoliate more without damaging your skin.

I would say that you are using too much water. Sprinkle just enough to make it wet, like a paste then add a few more drops. The cleanser should foam a little and when applied it should feel a little scratchy. It won't feel like a traditional exfoilant but the longer that you keep rubbing it in your face the better it works. I use it in the shower and leave it one my face for the entire shower. Like the way it feels then.

Hi!! I have been using this cleanser for a couple of years now and it's my favorite BE cleanser!! Try using almost a half and half mix of cleanser/water and see if that helps. I use a little water and mix it to form a paste/mask substance. The exfoliating shouldn't feel like something tearing your skin but when you take it off you should feel the smooth layer of skin that's left and it should have a luminosity to it. I sometimes leave it on while I shower and then take it off at the end or other times I use it as a traditional wash then rinse cleanser. I would just suggest playing around with the amount of water you use and see if using a little less or more water helps. Also, this cleanser is not going to tear/rip the skin like something with big grains would, as that is not healthy for your skin. Sorry to be such a long answer but I hope this helps; much luck to you!!!!

i used to think this too! because it is a powder, there are not going to be the little beads that you are used to feeling with different exfoliants. this is more of a natural exfoliant. to feel results, i simply foam it, (rub wet hands together) and apply in circles. then i wash off with my other Be cleanser. i know it works because my face gets so soft! it takes getting used to without the beads, but its better for you because it doesn;t pull. Hope this helps!

Use just enough water to make the powder frothy. If you use too little water at first, you can always add a little more. The exfoliation this product give is very gentle. Because the powder is so fine, you barely feel it removing your dead skin, makeup, and general grossness from your face. It is gentle and therefore less aggitating to your skin. It is not supposed to feel abrasive. Be sure to use circular motions and let the product hang out for a few seconds on your face. You may not be able to feel it, but you can definately tell the difference after using it a few times :)

I loved the older version of this product but this newer one is disappointing. I don't feel any exfoliation with this new product either. Whenever I would run out of the dry cleanser I would use a little baking soda instead. It gently exfoliates and leaves my skin smooth but not dry.

I do feel the exfoliation, but it is light- it does't feel like the traditional exfoliater's I've used. I usually just wet my skin and then drop a few water droplets off my fingers into my plam to make a thick paste. Hope this helps!

Hi there! The trick is to use *just* the right amount of water. Here is what I do: I get my hands wet and tap my hands on my face to get it a little damp. Then, I sprinkle the cleanser into one hand. The, with the other hand, I run my fingers under the faucet and then using a "dash" type of movement (like cooking, add a "dash" of salt), I do that to the hand with the cleasner in it a couple of times then I slowly mix it together and apply to my face. The trick is you don't want a paste but you don't want to use too much water either....finding the right amount leaves it a little "grainy" which is what exfoliates the skin. Hope this helps!
