Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser 4.6 5 95 95
Cleanses better than anything else I have tried I was really shocked by this product. I was skeptical that a powder could cleanse my face better than a liquid cleanser. Its amazing though. It does take some getting used to, there is no guideline on how to mix the powder with water so it takes a little trial and error to figure out how much of each to use. Its better to start off with very little water. I love that I can fly with this product and not have to worry about it being liquid. When I used liquid cleansers my face would seem clean and then I would dry my face and find make up left on my towels, not the case here. Plus, after cleansing my face isn't left feeling dry and in need of serious moisturizer. Plus I can use it as a mask. Its a great multitasking product, and even though your not supposed to use it on your eyes, it takes my mascara off! 03/20/2011
Amazing cleanser I've been using the foaming facial cleanser for years until it ran out and Sephora stopped carrying Bare Minerals skin care products. I ordered this without trying it but wanted an exfoliating cleanser. I wasn't expecting a powder but no complaints. This doesn't feel like it's exfoliating but once my skin is washed it feels so smooth. This cleanser has also evened out my skin tone and I've only been using it for about 4 days. I've tried it as a face mask and loved it. It's almost like a clay mask but you don't need very much powder. It doesn't smell great, it smells almost earthy like soil which i don't mind at all. Some people might not like it though. 03/03/2014
Gentle Cleanser My favorite cleanser is the Deep Cleansing Foam, but I cannot use that morning & night because my skin dries out easily. So my current skin care routine is to use the foam cleanser at night, and the Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser in the morning. I love it. It is so gentle on the skin, and I have clearer skin with my current routine (been at this routine for about three months) than I ever have before. Speaking to ease of using this as a powder... The powder substance took me a few tries to get used to, but once you figure out the right ratio for you, it's very easy. I keep this cleanser in the shower, and when my hands are wet, I sprinkle the cleanser in my hand (It takes two small shakes for me to get my desired amount). Then I rub my palms together and then rub it into my face. The only water I need is what was already on my hands, so it is very easy. Don't knock it until you try it a few times! Plus, you can take a full size bottle of this on airplanes because it is a powder. It also lasts a long time. I use this once a day and have been using it for about three months and I think I'm close to halfway down the bottle. 02/04/2014
poor design I kept the container in the shower and water got into the bottle & ruined the product. Waste of money. I realize its my own fault but you can't tell if the bottle is open or closed. When I went to go use it again it was wet inside & thus unsanitary. Won't buy it again.... 01/02/2014
Great for flying...and your pores I got this as a gift a few years ago, and it's the only powder cleanser I've ever tried! If you have trouble with cleansers clogging your pores, try this. I love the fact I can just pour a small amount of powder in my hands, add a few drops of water, and use it to exfoliate my skin. Add more powder to make it thicker, or less to use as a quick refresher. It's also great for flying and all those stipulations about creams and liquids! I've traveled with it in my carry-on and no TSA agents stopped me! 11/18/2013
Not what I expected.... I bought a travel size version of the Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser and was very disappointed. It was rather messy to use. I also couldn't quite find the right mix of water and powder to create a consistency of the cleanser that I liked. Lastly, I don't care for the scent of this product at all! 10/04/2013
Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser This product was not what I expected it to be: It did a good job cleaning and making my face feel smooth and clean; however, it was not as exfoliating as I expected/wanted it to be, and I always ended up using way more powder than I wanted to because I wanted it to be very exfoliating. The powder would also dissolve quickly in my opinion. Overall, it was very cleansing and made my face look brighter, but if you're looking for an exfoliating cleanser that is very exfoliating, it's not this one. I would recommend it for daily cleaning and brightening, though. 09/24/2013
Simply the best for large pores and congested skin I have sensitive skin that often gets congested and I have large pores. In the summer, these problems get worse. This powder cleanser is simply the best I've found over the course of DECADES of trying so many cleansers and regimens, and I hope BE never changes it or drops it from their line. It is different than other cleansers, so it takes a little getting used to. A little goes a long way. I am now into my late 40's so in the winter when my skin is especially dry but still congested with those pesky large pores, I mix it with a creamy cleanser. This is MUST HAVE in my book. I truly love it. 07/15/2013
Greatest Cleanser Ever! I absolutely love this cleanser. I tried it once, and it tore the layers of my skin off. I went back to the boutique to return it, and they advised me to wait several days before trying it again, and not to use it the morning after I use the glow pads. Ever since, my skin has looked brighter and felt softer than ever. For those of you that have sensitive skin and have the glow pads, don't use this cleanser every day, because it would be too much exfoliation. Otherwise, this cleanser is best used in the morning! 05/08/2013
Never using another exfoliator I have the biggest issues with my pores so I thought the tougher the exfoliate, the better. I did not realize that the harsh products I used before were actually making MORE problems for my skin. It took some getting used to with this powder because I had always used liquids before. Once I figured out the just-right mixture of powder and water I was shocked at how incredibly gentle but effective this product is. My skin is much smoother and my pores are smaller instead of more irritated! I know why this product gets such amazing reviews...I can't imagine using any other exfoliate now. It is gentle enough to use everyday. It is a permanent part of my skincare routine. 05/03/2013

I am an ex-Proactiv user, (Proactiv was way too harsh for my skin and eventually stopped working) I switched 3 weeks ago to the deep cleansing foam as well as the Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser. I sprinkle the Exfoliating powder on the Foam and wash my face morning and night. My skin is not irritated and it feels wonderful, but I'm breaking out terribly (small pimples as opposed to the cystic acne I had with Proactiv). Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there hope for my skin or should I try a different cleanser?

The best skin care routine I've ever had is what I have been doing for the last three months - I use the Deep Cleansing Foam at night, the Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser in the morning, the Lightweight Moisturizer once or twice a day, and Blemish Therapy when breakouts happen. I've never tried mixing the cleansers the way you have, so I can't completely compare experiences, but I believe the typical cycle it takes the average person to test the success of a skin care routine is between 45 and 60 days. I've had skin care routines be misleading - break out worse for a month before skin clears up, or clear up immediately only to start its usual break outs again just when I think my worries are over - so I would give it two months before you make your final call as to whether you want to stick with the routine or look for a new product. I know the process is frustrating. Make sure to invest in some good foundation and concealer so you have the freedom to try routines as you need to without having to show your acne to the world.

In my experience, this cleanser seems to pull impurities out from my skin. So after a few days, I did have some pimples rise to the surface but they healed faster with less residual redness, and then my pores started to shrink and my congested face and blackheads started going away. Stick with it!
P.S. I have combination skin, but I also have sensitive skin and it has been sheer torture since high school (in the 1980's, lol) to find a product that was effective on blackheads and breakouts without causing bad irritation to my skin. I would literally scrub my face raw sometimes and the only result was redness and sore skin in addition to acne and blackheads. Now that I'm older I have a little less oil, so I get dry under my eyes and on my cheeks, but in that case I mix this with a creamy cleanser, and I like Bare Escentuals creamy cleanser in the pump as well.

If there is a boutique in your area, go to that boutique and tell them your problems with the skincare. This is a problem that I have been having as well, and the makeup artists explained that I may want to add some Blemish therapy into the mix. (BTW: I did this and it has been working WONDERS for my skin).

This cleanser physically and gently exfoliates as opposed to chemical exfoliation. I am outdoors a lot and am very sensitive to chemical exfoliants and sun exposure. This product is great in that it effectively exfoliates my skin without chemicals that cause irritation.

My skin became clogged, developed larger pores, and pores that I had never noticed before after using Mac foundation for a few years. I'd love if I could find a product that got rid of my patches of orange peel and return it to the state it was before. Anyone know which product would work better for this?

I use both products - Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser in the morning and Deep Cleansing Foam at night. In my observations, I think the exfoliating cleanser really helps to dig impurities out of your skin - definitely helpful when you have enlarged pores - the the foam helps to tighten the pores again. Everyone's skin is different so unfortunately there is a lot of trial and error involved in finding your perfect skin care routine, but in my experience, a combination of these two products does wonders.

I also have large pores. I have tried a few of the cleansers and the Exfoliating treatment cleanser seems to do the best for me. I have cystic acne and haven't had a cyst since I moved to using this cleanser twice a day. It is also the most cost friendly of their cleansers and travels easily at the airport.

Personally I love the exfoliating cleanser. It takes some time to get use to mixing the powder + water together, but you'll get the hang of it! I found the foam to be too thick (and maybe containing too many oils?) and I broke out from it.

I have used the powder cleanser for 5 years and as a former BE Beauty Ambassador I can tell you that I had countless clients who saw amazing things happen to their skin with the Rare skinscare. Best of luck!

I think the exfoliating cleanser would work well for you based on my expirence. I use the exfoliating cleanser as my daily wash. I tryed the deep cleansing foam and like it for every know and then but I found that it cleans to deep. If you are lazey and don't get your face wash that night I found the may face would break out.

hi, you need to give your skin a chance to recover. don't expect a miracle over night. i have combination skin so i use the exfoliating cleanser twice a week in the morning in place of the deep cleanser. the deep cleanser, i use in the morning and in the night i use the purifying cleanser. i don't believe using the exfoliating cleanser should be used everyday - it may be too aggresive.

I have both the exfoliating cleanser and the deep cleansing foam. What I have found that works well for me is using the cleaning foam in the morning and using the exfoliating cleanser at night. I prefer the exfoliating cleanser at night which does a really good job at getting rid of all my make-up, sweat, etc from the day. On the other hand the deep cleansing foam is a tad bit more mild which is why I like this product in the morning. Sometimes when my face really needs a good rub down i'll use the two together, put a little bit of both in my hand, add a bit of water, rub together and then apply directly to my face. I believe this little routine could work well for both the purifying facial cleanser and the exfoliating treatment cleanser.

hi, if you have sensitive skin like me please don't expect an overnight miracle. give your skin a chance to get used to this new product. i was extremely nervous like you but decided to give it a shot. you won't know unless you try, remember everyone is different.
my skin took about a month to get used to it. it hasn't made my acne worse at all. it's better, i remember when i used to use a toner and then my skin would be oily right after using it. and it was a toner specifically for my skin type. i hated that. now my skin doesn't look as oily at all. sometimes i won't use an oil absorbing sheet until the afternoon (after washing my face early in the morning). right now i am not sure if using the deep foaming cleanser all the time is the best thing for me. i'm actually going to post a question about this, somehow i feel it's a little too tough on my sensitive skin. maybe i need to alternate with the purifying... which clearly states it's gentle.

First, let me say that I love BE products, and I've been pleased with every item I've tried so far, including the Purifying Facial Cleanser, Purely Nourishing Moisturizer, and Firming Eye Treatment in this line. My question, though, is about ingredients:

I'm trying to figure out what I "should" be using at age 25 for the best skin care. I'm reading a lot that for 25-35, cleansers with salicylic acid and masks/peels with glycolic acid are still best (even though I know the word "acid" is scary to a lot of people). This product has neither, and I'm just curious ... Does anyone else subscribes to this kind of ingredient loyalty? Does it really make much difference, or are these things worth seeking out? Thanks!

I think it depends on your skin type and what kind of activities you do as to what type of cleansers you use. I am older than you (knocking on 40), but I have sensitive skin and am outdoors a lot with a great deal of sun exposure. Salicylic and gylcolic acids tend to intensify the damaging effects of the sun so I avoid them as much as possible. I have found this cleanser to be very effective in providing all the great benefits you would expect from the acids without the damaging side effects.

Hey there! I'm 27 and I have used the entire Rare skincare system for almost 5 years. I get compliments on my skin constantly---even just checking out at Target! I adore the line, but I know what you mean about being curious bout the ingredients. Since I hit 27 (okay, I'm lying, I turn 27 on Friday)---so since 27 is on the horizon----I've been looking into more heavy duty anti-aging efforts, and my research turned up the same info as yours did.

BE used to have a line called MD Formulations (you can see a tab for it at the top of this page) which has some of the acid products you're talking about. (I would describe this as the more chemically skincare line, vs rare which is much more pure.) I've kind of mixed and matched some of the Rare products with MD!

Best of luck!

I would say that it depends on your skin. I personally can't use any acid cleansers for my face because it causes my face to dry out and get really itchy. The exfoliating cleanser is so gentle that you can use it two times a day without any worry, it really does leave your face very clean, like squeaky clean without bothering it at all.

Not sure exactly what product you are speaking of. It depends. If you are speaking of powder foundations, not really. Powder foundations dry the skin out. They absorb a lot of oil. Unless you are very oily, I would not use this. I think they will find in a few years that the powder foundations are actually aging because of how they dry skin out. Fine for young skin, but older skin not so much. You would need a facial primer, like the brightening. Then I am still not sure how it would be. It also does in fact settle in lines and wrinkles.
The other face products are nice. Love be primers, love be eye primers, love be shadows, love be glosses, love be blushes. The skin care is great for sensitive skin. Those products would work for you.

Yes, I have had great results with the travel size Clarisonic with this cleanser. I tap the cleanser directly onto the brush, then I drip a little water onto it until it forms a paste and work it around the brush head a bit. Then I quickly dampen my face and use the Clarisonic as directed. It gives a deep cleaning of pores and quickly clears away blackheads. Unfortunately my Clarisonic broke, it was the absolute perfect regimen, I loved the Exfoliating Cleanser with the Clarisonic. I wouldn't use it with gritty exfoliators, either drugstore brand (Aveeno) or high end luxury brands. Maybe use one of those mild chemical exfoliants/skin brighteners that come soaked in the liquid solution and packaged in a screw top jar afterwards instead of a gritty exfoliator. Just my opinion on the exfoliation process....

Hello! I also have a Clarisonic and use the Exfoliating Cleasner. Based on what I have read, you can use exfoliating cleansers with the Clarisonic as long as they are not the type that have "shells"/larger pieces in them to exfoliate. The BE Exfoliating Cleasner doesn't, so it is fine to use....I have and there hasn't been a problem.

I use all of the cleansers with the Clarisonic, and each works fine. My favorite choice is actually the Exfoliating Cleanser. Even though I have very sensitive skin, I don't have any problems. Enjoy!

I absolutely love BE products and after reading the description and reviews on this new Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser, I decided to order it yesterday. So far, everyone is saying how soft and smooth their skin feels right after applying this treatment before bed or waking up, so is it necessary to use a facial moisturizer right after too? I'm use to applying a facial mask twice a week and still use facial moisturizer, but didn't know if this product was any different, afterall, it is labeled as an exfoliating cleanser, not a lotion or moisturizer.

hi, yes you need to use a moisturizer after using the exfoliating treatment. even more importantly so because you've removed layers of skin that you would not really do during normal cleansing and you need to pamper the new exposed skin to keep it supple and well hydrated.

I follow it with the moisturizer twice daily. Hope you love this product as much as I do!

I use and highly recommend, the exfoliating treatment cleanser then follow it the purely nourishing moisturizer. When I first used the exfoliating treatment cleanser, it left my skin very soft and unlike any cleanser I've used in the past, my skin didn't feel taut and dry.

Personally, I think that it is always best for your skin to moisturize after cleansing. The Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser is a cleanser, you mix it with water, scrub, and wash off. It does leave my face very soft, but my skin still needs the Purely Nourishing Moisturizer very lightly after and my skin loves me!

Hey, Georgia Peach!

First off, it's not really necessary to use a different mask if you're using the Exfoliating Cleanser every day. You can use this as a mask as often as you want - just wash your face and don't rinse; put your shoes on, feed the cat, whatever. It will dry in about 3 minutes & when you rinse it off, you'll be smooth and soft.

As far as whether to use a moisturizer; yes. This is just a cleanser. It won't 'dry' your skin out like some cleansers, but your skin still needs hydration to keep it supple and halt those wrinkles in their tracks.

If your skin is normal/combination (a bit of oil in t-zone) the Purely Nourishing Moisturizer is perfect. If your skin feels tight after washing it, or you have dry or flaky patches, I would recommend the Purely Nourishing Cream. Both of the moisturizers are oil-free and you can use them night and day - even the Cream is sheer enough to wear under your makeup all day.

Just remember that this Exfoliating Cleanser is NOT made with broken nut shells or rough ingredients that feel 'scrubby.' Rather than 'scraping' the top layer of your skin off (and tearing & irritating your skin), the RareMinerals Active Soil Complex (basically pure soil) massages your skin and sloughs off the dead cells.

Enjoy!

I generally use a BE moisturizer after using the Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser, just because I love how it feels and not necessarily because I have to. The nice thing about the cleanser is that it won't take the essential oils out of your skin. Therefore, you won't end up with a face that's crying for moisture. Long story short, you probably don't HAVE to follow with a moisturizer, but it sure is nice!

I have an old Rareminerals kit that came with the exfoliating cleanser, night treatment, eye cream, and moisturizer. It says to wash your face first, then use moisturizer, then the night treatment, then the eye cream It does recommend that you use the cleanser and moisturizer twice per day.

One of the reviewers says that the active soil complex is the exfoliating property. I've used this for over a month and do not feel or see the exfoliating effects. My question is, then, how does this differ from the daily facial cleanser which also has the active soil complex.

Hi, if you look at the video in the "experience" section and then search for skin care collections you'll see the explanation about what exactly the active soil complex is. They did not mention exfoliating effects...but BE does have an impressive exfoliating cleanser that would achieve the exfoliation you are looking for.

A few of the exfoliants I see in this product are kaolin, starch from rice and tapioca, as well as lemon peel. Kaolin clay and the starches perform a double duty as they have been known to absorb excess oil from the skin. You also get mother natures's skin soothing, anti-aging, and antioxidant properties of essential oils and plant extracts plus the added benefits of Active Soil Complex.
Most of all, makes this product extraordinary is that you can customize its application according to your need. You may reduce the amount of water you use according to the amount of exfoliation you need. Less water means more exfoliation. For morning cleansing, I wet my face and hands, place a small dollop of powder on my palm and with my other wet hand, add some more water until its like a wet paste then apply it to my face. For evening, I only add 2-4 drops of water keeping it at a pastey powdery consistency for more exfoliating. After each use, with skin feeling soft and renewed, I follow it with the Purely Nourishing Mousturizer and treat any potential and current breakouts with Blemish Therapy. And, along with PrimeTime creating an even smoother canvas for my morning BareMinerals makeup regimen.

I don't know what the exfoliating components are, but when I use the purifying cleanser at night and the exfoliating cleanser in the morning. When I wash with both products, I add natural, unbleached sugar to them to help with the exfoliating. It seems to get the dead skin off much better than the cleansers themselves.

The Exfoliating cleanser is different from the purifying due to the texture. Purifying is more gentle where as the exfoliating is one where you can choose the consistancy. Exfoliating does not mean that it is supposed to tingle or anything like that but because the exfoliating is more rough it is helping to exfoliate and remove all the dirt in your pores. The active soil complex itself is not meant to exfoliate but it is to help promote healthy cell turn over which is why it is good to have in any cleanser or skin care routine. It also helps feed your body nutrients and anti oxidents in levels greater than a blue berry or pomegranit. The best thing I have found in the exfoliating cleanser is making a mask out of it and letting it dry to your face so you can let your body soak in all those wonderful nutrients your body needs.
